Forces, equilibrium and free-body diagrams

By the end you’ll be able to

• identify forces acting on a particle, including weight, normal contact force, tension and other given external forces, and represent them on clear free-body diagrams
• use vector ideas in two dimensions to resolve forces into perpendicular components, including horizontal and vertical directions and directions parallel and perpendicular to a line
• apply the relationship $W=mg$ for weight using an appropriate value of $g$ in context
