Control plane and data plane separation, overlays and underlays, fabrics, and northbound and southbound APIs

By the end you’ll be able to

• Differentiate the control plane from the data plane and identify the primary function of each in packet forwarding and route decision processes.
• Explain why separating control plane and data plane supports software-defined and programmable network designs.
• Compare underlay and overlay networks, including the role of the underlay in transport and the role of the overlay in logical segmentation or service abstraction.
