Normal distribution and standardisation

By the end you’ll be able to

• Use the notation $$X\sim N(\mu,\sigma^2)$$ and identify the meaning of the parameters $$\mu$$ and $$\sigma^2$$.
• Calculate probabilities for intervals under a normal distribution using symmetry, calculator methods or standardisation as appropriate.
• Standardise a normal variable using $$Z=\frac{X-\mu}{\sigma}$$ and use properties of the standard normal distribution.
