Random variables and the binomial distribution

By the end you’ll be able to

• Define a discrete random variable and represent its distribution in tables, functions or notation such as $$P(X=r)$$.
• Calculate probabilities, cumulative probabilities, the mean and the variance of a discrete random variable from its distribution.
• Recognise when a situation can be modelled by a binomial distribution and state the conditions required for the model.
