The format, as published
- Two parts, each 50% of the exam.
- Part A Written Response (scheduled 3 h): Personal Response to Texts (20%, suggested 600–1200 words) and Critical/Analytical Response to Literary Texts (30%, suggested 800–1600 words).
- Part B Reading (scheduled 3 h): 70 machine-scored multiple-choice questions on fiction and nonfiction passages, some linked to each other.
- All students may take up to double time.
- Diploma exam = 30% of the final course mark (70% school mark; the 30% weighting has applied since Sept 1, 2023).
- Written on paper or on Alberta’s digital assessment platform.
