The format, as published

  • About 2 h on computer at a test centre in 3 parts, with 19 scored item types.
  • Part 1, Speaking & Writing (about 50–65 min), has Personal Introduction (unscored), Read Aloud, Repeat Sentence, Describe Image, Respond to a Situation, Answer Short Question, Summarize Written Text and Write Email (80–120 words).
  • Part 2, Reading (about 27–37 min), has Reading & Writing Fill in the Blanks, Multiple Choice (multiple and single answer), Re-order Paragraphs and Fill in the Blanks.
  • Part 3, Listening (about 22–37 min), has Summarize Spoken Text, Multiple Choice (multiple and single answer), Fill in the Blanks, Select Missing Word, Highlight Incorrect Words and Write from Dictation.
  • The content is general English, not academic.
  • Scores are 10–90 overall and for each of the four skills, mapped to Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB).
  • Scoring is fully by computer (no human rating), and results usually arrive within about 48 hours.
